Yesterday we headed north from our family home in Napier to Rotoura. We had an awesome Christmas, catching up with family and friends! We battled some wild weather driving with some intense wind! It made for and interesting journey with gusts of 120kph. About 20mins into our trip we saw a van on the side of the road where a tree had fallen on it whist driving. The focus now turns to getting in some hours strength and endurance training and a little preparation for the up coming races. I have taken the approach where I will focus on peaking  [ Read More ]

Well we finally made it home after an epic day. We travelled from the Baileys house in Wanaka and headed to the Fox Glacier where we were hoping to check it out the following day. Unfortunately the West Coast rain kicked in flooding the walkways and closing the road to the glacier. With the rain settling in we decided to head north towards Greymouth to catch up with some friends and check out the coast. It pretty much rained the whole time we were there until we arrived at the Punakaiki Pan Cake Rocks. It was such a sweet way  [ Read More ]

The Tekapo Training Camp kicked off on Wednesday night and concluded on Sunday afternoon.  We had sweet accommodation right at the lake edge where we were able to have some flat water sessions and made the early morning sessions much easier! There was a large range of abilities, however I was stoked to see how well everyone got along and the massive improvement over the four days! The more senior paddlers made the most of the camp working towards racing at the Australian Nationals in early January. The younger paddlers worked on their basic slalom skills and by the end  [ Read More ]

We kicked off our South Island Tour last week. We made it to the ferry and then stayed the night in Kaikoura. We just cruised our way down, stopping off in a few places to snap a few pictures. Randomly we pulled into the same rest area as one of my old mates. After a few yarns and a few pictures of some seals we made it to Tekapo for the training camp. In the weekend Steph and I headed over to Napier for the Cape Kidnappers Challenge. Steph entered the race last minute and I went along as part of the support team. The race was held out in Cape Kidnappers and the 32ish km course went around and over some of the most iconic land in Hawkes Bay. Well done to Steph for winning the Open Womans Division!!! A creditable mention to Tim, DB and Conner for being the first team home, sadly missing one of the checkpoints prevented them from the win..
