Canoe Slalom World Championships

Today was a pretty windy one!! So windy that racing has been cancelled and all results have been made scrapped even though everyone raced first runs. Race organisers declared the conditions to be unfair and racing will start again tomorrow.  For me this means another day on the river bank as they are changing the programme and making a decision in the morning if racing will even start tomorrow. So K1 Womans and C2 Mens might race tomorrow or might not. No K1 Mens or C1 Mens will start tomorrow so another day chilling out…. The girls did race first  [ Read More ]

We have only one more session to go before the 2011 Canoe Slalom World Championships start!! Things have been going pretty well for me throughout the final stages of my preparation with everything starting to gel. We have the opening ceremony which is held in town at the Eurovea Centre. It starts on Tuesday evening and the Womans K1 and Mens C2 start the event with their heats on Wednesday.  I race on Thursday around 1030am (830pm NZ time) with the C1 Men following in the afternoon. The course has been getting a facelift with new scoreboards, seating, signs, more  [ Read More ]

The 2011 Canoe Slalom World Championshipsare getting pretty close, well they are only 5 days away from starting. Training has been getting even better over the past few days with some more progressions and I feel good with my preperation and where I am at. Its just down to getting it right on the day!! Anyway a few days ago the crew that Im traveling with decided that we would make the most of our reduced training loads and our rest day to travel the hour thirty to Budapest. Following our training we drove over and spent the night which  [ Read More ]

Another week has gone by here in Bratislava. The temperatures were pushing past 35 degrees for the whole week which made life pretty tough as we had no air conditioning. Following the ICF training camp I had a couple of easy days and was stoked to feel the benefit. I feel like I have made some good progressions over the past few weeks and Im feeling a lot more consistent on many parts of this course! I also had a trip to Vajda Canoes and Kayaks who were awesome and fixed up a crack that I put in my boat…  [ Read More ]

For the past week the NZ Canoe Slalom Team has been training attending the ICF training camp in Bratislava. It pretty much means we have had a large block of white water training on the World Championship course. I did a stack of training throughout the week and now Im pretty wrecked and looking forward to a few easy days. Its been great to utilise some video feedback and learn a bit more about how to paddle this challenging course, particularly the bottom drop that nicknamed ‘Niagara‘. I also picked up and assembled my new set of G Power, Crank  [ Read More ]

Well todays racing didn’t quite go to plan. But some really positive stuff to build on going into the next 4 weeks leading into the World Championships. I finished 55th in Mens K1, my worst result in many years. However its not all bad, I attacked both my runs pretty well but in both first and second runs I had a few issues with the last two upstreams and ended up dropping very very low in my first run and also pretty low in my second run. I also had a touch on both runs but both were from swinging  [ Read More ]
