Its been a pretty busy last couple of weeks with the Rugby World Cup and the bunch of Canoe Slalom Camps. Great weekend all round! I was one part of a slick coaching team that helped our next future champions at the New Zealand U18 Development Team Camp. We spent a few days training out at Mangahao where the kids had a large whitewater block, a few talks and teaching them a few tricks. Pretty much every slalom paddler that is paddling today in NZ has been through this team and it is a real credit to Ian Mercer and  [ Read More ]

Contour 1-3

A couple of nights ago we had the 2011 Massey University Sports Awards Dinner. It was a pretty cool evening with a good feed and agreat guest speaker, Paul Henare – ex NZ Basketballer, NZ Breaker and Hawkes Bay Hawkes Coach. He shared a few cool stories from his basketball days and we were presented with our Blues awards. Congratulations to Ayla Dunlop-Barrett (Surf Life Saving) who won the BNZ Manawatu Sportswoman of the Year and Hamish Bond (Rowing) for BNZ Manawatu Sportsman of the Year. Mt Ruaphu

I have been back in good old New Zealand for a couple of weeks now and have been taking it easy! I caught a pretty gnarly bug a couple of days after I got home and spent a good week resting in front of the TV, computer and sleeping! Lucky for me the Rugby World Cup has been on so I have been catching up on some rugby action. Its also been really nice being able catching up with mates and generally live a semi normal life for a couple of weeks without having to go training… However planning has  [ Read More ]

On the way home from the last couple of World Championships I have tried to stop off in a couple of new places. This time it was Munich and Salzburgs turn! Salzburg is a pretty sweet town and we only had enough time to have  stroll through town and up to their castle on the top of the hill. In Munich we had a few more days so we were able to venture around the place and take our time. We checked out a lot of sights to see in Munich which included the cool English Gardens, BMW Museum, Rathaus,  [ Read More ]

It has been a while since I have updated my website and a lot has been going on. The 2011 Canoe Slalom Worlds came to completion with a couple of new World Champions and a couple retaining their titles. Peter K won Mens with Corina K winning the woman’s. We also had the teams race which was on the finals course. It was a pretty cool course that had a few technical moves and a up right in the bottom drop. The up right is pretty tricky at the best of times and when you cant see the person at  [ Read More ]
